Revolutions…

March  2010 / 22 3 Comments

French Revolution? I think: 1789, easy date, bloody date, start of a modern era, democracy, some people might think some names, most of us don’t, they think year 8 history, French revolution on the blackboard, me in the last row facing her, not the revolution, the girl that I then dated, not the revolution, I don’t care, the girl, anyway, in between equality and liberty we met up outside school, then there was a class on brotherhood…different kind of revolution in my life…

Then the Russian Revolution…mystery, some might think: Bolshevik, most will think: you speak gibberish?, Communism, some, maybe, Socialism, less likely less known, the tsar, which one?, abdicated? might be, need to check with Wiki, XXth century I suppose, can you believe it?, terror, revolution, I never really thought of it, should I?

The free love revolution…yes oh yes, was sixteen, not this one?, the one in the sixties where I wasn’t even in plans yet, but yes, sure, Flower Power, naked women on the streets, against the bourgeois, bourgeois?, need to check with wiki, but yes sure, I know what you mean, children’s boom, but still passé, as the French say it, passé, now…

What about today? There are no revolutions…there are terrorists, attacks, wars, no real revolutions, postmodernism, check wiki, they say, boring…not really! Social media? What is that? Oh you mean Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, sure! Revolution? I just don’t read papers any more is that it? Yes? Oh well if so much fuss about it…

100 million users in a month? If Facebook was a country it would be 4th largest one…wow! Impressive, but then there is no more space on earth anyway – internet? Hold on, you can’t really build a house there, can you? Socialnomics? Hmmm…all sounds good but then calling it a revolution is a bit much, it’s a BIG word…

How many hours I spend on chatting/wall-posting/photo flicking? No, I don’t stalk on Facebook! Really! Well depends what you mean I do look at pictures this is ok…well yes maybe a couple of hours a day, to relax! That’s fine, the average user spends 55 mins on Facebook. Nothing more…news? BBC website sure it’s quick is that a problem, man? No, you say, a revolution? Gosh, you like your big words, no idea, maybe?

No papers bought any more, well this is called a market, or environmental policy, no? Woods in Asia? No? it’s called internet you say … well hard to argue with you I’ll talk about it and get back to you.

How? Well I’ll Facebook you, what did you think? Mobile is passé, and I have a sour throat anyway. Sour thumb? No, not yet…
